New Building Firms on Easdale

I’m sure you’re all aware of Jimmy Robertson and TSL on island now. It’s good to see professional builders getting on with their job, working hard and not being used to intimidate, threaten, and abuse island residents who just happen to have a different view on how this island and its conservation status should be managed.

Both TSL and Jimmy have pointed out to me that they are here to do a job of work, and not get involved in island politics. I do know that our chairwoman of Eilean Eisdeal has said publicly “he will be stopped”  – Jimmy that is. Well, I see no sign of that. Perhaps it’s time for Eilean Eisdeal to stop being the mouth piece for Mike Mackenzie Builders and start listening to the community that they claim to represent.

Clachan Wind Farm

There is a proposal to build a wind farm on land west of Loch Seil, consisting of eleven 78 metre high turbines. No planning application has been submitted as yet, but one is imminent. If you think this is nothing to worry about, consider this photo-montage impression of what it would look like viewed from Whinbank.

A group has been formed (PACT – People Against Clachan Turbines) to make residents aware of this proposal, and more information is posted on their website. Click on the link below:

Courgette Loaf from Easdale Island

This was recipe originally sent to me from Jess after I had rather a glut of courgettes from the garden.  The recipe seems to be idiot proof – even I can make it!


 Mix together:

 3 eggs

2 cups of coarsely grated unpeeled courgettes

1 cup of sunflower oil

2.5 cups of brown sugar

3 teaspoons of vanilla essence

 Then add:

 3 cups of plain flour

3 teaspoons of cinnamon

1.5 teaspoons of baking powder

1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda

1 cup of chopped walnuts

 Pour into 2 lined baking tins.  Bake for 15 minutes at 180c the 45 minutes at 150c.

 Mmmmm!  Yummy!!

 P.S.  If you like icing you can split the loaves in the middle and add cheesy icing.

 1 tub of cream cheese

3oz butter

8-10oz icing sugar

 Mix all together and spread!
